ARTservancy is a yearlong artist residency program that facilitates partnerships between artists and land trust properties to promote the visionary work of both artists and conservationists.

What began in September of 2018 as a partnership between Gallery 224 and the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, has grown to include five Partnerships with the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, the River Revitalization Foundation, the Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat ObservatoryTall Pines Conservancy and the Milwaukee Area Land Conservancy.

This year’s diverse cohort of artists include a filmmaker, a movement artist, a sound artist, a projection artist, a fiber artist, a ceramicist, and an installation artist.

Artists in Residence create a body of artwork inspired by the property, culminating in a month-long exhibition at Gallery 224. Programming is offered throughout their residency year, include an ongoing blog featuring the artist on A Wealth of Nature, on-site tours, performances, workshops and demonstrations.

ARTservancy encourages collaborations with community partners to highlight access and give permission to create in natural spaces, breaking down the gates of a metaphorical Walled Garden. ARTservancy's mission is to protect and establish empathetic roles in these spaces, while advocating for equal, safe and innovative artwork.
